Guided by Fire

Here is a blog post I wrote today! I hope you enjoy it.

It's about following the path of guidance and keeping the connection open with the planes behind this one. I think it is the way of the artist, writer, child at play. It is also the way and the responsibility of the shamanic souls and way showers for the times.

I wait patiently for images to come through for guidance on turns to take in the world. It's a journey of trust where I wonder how on earth I am going to swing from tree to tree. But the images always come; often when I am swimming or going on a run. I am thinking now about the sadhus in India. When I was in Varanasi in 1997, sadhus were everywhere. I was obsessed with the idea of going with the flow and like them, trusting in a higher force and this showing me the way. I decided I would go back and join them one day. Well, I didn't go back; I had children instead, which was a different kind of surrender and a more human centred practice of going with the flow. When I think of my children, I think of two goats guiding me up a mountain side, eventually leaving me on the high peaks to run down their separate paths into their adult lives. And I am sitting here still, like this is where I was always meant to metaphorically find myself. Here at the edges of the earth's holding, I delight at the company of many worlds. I observe the vista of a planet that is brimming with invitation to join together the human and the archetypal. Back when the youngest goat skipped away, the spirits gave me an instruction: 'Bring in the Mythical. It's what you are here for.' So this is what I do. I wait patiently for images to come through to give guidance on my turns to take in the world. It's a journey of trust and in my everyday life I often wonder how I am going to swing from tree to tree.

The courses that I put out there are born this way. How it happens is this: The vision of a spirit, always an animal deity, comes into my consciousness and then opens a door to a room in my brain. The room leads out to other dimensions that pair with the one we are currently in. With the Death and Dying work it was Vulture Woman, the Egyptian deity of the Upper Kingdom who came through. With the Shamanic Theatre work, Khnum the Ram headed creator god of Egypt visited me. The stones course had the giants, who I had the privilege to meet in real life on the Isle of Lewis. With the Cave and Drum course it was Goatman of Scotland and the Kukera goat beings of Bulgaria. They also walked into the script of the film Gobhar. With Wheel 2 it was Earth consciousness through my Buffalo woman guide who woke me up in a dream. Drum 2 was Earth consciousness wishing me to awaken the ancestral openings with the earth through time and place. With the Rivers and Lochs training it has been the Kelpies who have appeared to run and swim beside me. Those water horses just keep on being here for me, so I know our work is far from done yet. And then more recently, for the Theatre of the Sun mystery school it is a set of Nubian lioness headed beings who have appeared for me to take me through this next year. I used to have dreams about them as a child. I had forgotten all about them until one of them came through. I found my heart leaping in a child's glee of remembrance. They are the kindest, gentlest of beings.

Well, today as I was swimming, they came in more urgently. 'Fire', they said. 'You have to also work with myth and the element of fire.' I have previously worked with fire for a ten year apprenticeship as a fire walk instructor and had thought it was water and earth who would be my main elements now. 'That was just the beginning' they smiled. 'Humans have by large forgotten how to hold their inner fire and maintain connection with spiritual fire. The fire outside is raging. You need to take the fire back inside and learn how to hold it.'

My thoughts immediately went to Chiron and the story of how Chiron sacrificed their life so that Prometheus would not suffer eternal agony. Prometheus brought fire into the world of humans and the God's had punished him for it. 'So Chiron is in it too?' I ask. Nods and more smiles.

Fire of the Earth Soul was born today.

It is when we take the spirit of fire inside our hearts that we join with the soul of the earth. It is when we join with the soul of the earth that we join together as humans with a common heart. It is then that the chaos outside can calm.
